Strengthening the Pipeline: Critical Factors for Successful Leaders

Overview

Strengthening the Pipeline: Critical Factors for Successful Leaders is a distinctive leadership developmental initiative offered by the Executive Leadership Council’s Institute for Leadership Development & Research (Institute).  The Institute provides executive-level seminars, peer mentoring and coaching, networking with top corporate executives, and leadership opportunities to help high potential African-American business leaders achieve stellar performance and recognition.  Additionally, the Institute offers cutting-edge research in the interest of understanding diversity business practices and leadership issues affecting African-American development.

Strengthening the Pipeline is fully delivered in three sessions over the course of 12 months.  Participants are expected to attend all three sessions to benefit from the developmental series.  The program begins with a three-day seminar followed by two, two-day sessions.  In connection with the classroom sessions, each participant will also be assigned a personal executive mentor from The Executive Leadership Council (The Council).  The Council is a unique, national membership organization representing a cadre of executive level men and women who bring unparalleled insight to a variety of business issues.  In addition to connecting with their Council mentor, participants are also expected to engage in learning Webinars and an Action Learning Team Project.  As a participant in the Strengthening the Pipeline: Critical Factors for Successful Leaders you will be assessed, developed, mentored, and coached for success in the future.

Learning Objectives

This development series for high performing corporate professionals focuses on proven strategies leaders need for continued success and recognition. The desired outcomes are to:

·         Increase self-awareness regarding individual leadership styles, strengths, and weaknesses;
·         Develop an astute sense of organizational politics and culture;
·         Learn how to cultivate and manage relationships in and around the workplace;
·         Discuss some of the intangible factors which influence the decisions of business leaders;
·         Understand how to leverage intrapreneurialism for organizational and corporate success;
·         Create a career development plan which includes developmental activities, transition strategies, and short- and long-term goals.

  Additionally, attending this program will specifically help you to:

·         Network more effectively;
·         Learn how to mentor and be mentored;
·         Identify factors which can derail your career;
·         Broaden your perspective about your current job function;
·         Increase your professional network of managers and executives.

Who Should Attend

This program series is designed for high-performing African-American professionals in corporate America who are:

·         High potential leaders with proven success and maturity in a corporate environment
·         Mid-career (i.e. 6-15 years in career)
·         Within four (4) to six (6) levels of the CEO
·         Willing to listen, learn, and be challenged

Registration & Confirmation

Our online registration form allows you to quickly submit your Strengthening the Pipeline application and provide your contact information.  In addition to the online application, prospective participants need to mail to the Institute for Leadership Development & Research a signed letter of endorsement from an authorized senior officer who recommends the candidate to the program AND/OR is familiar with the company’s future plans for the candidate.  The endorser should send a single page letter addressing: (a) the reason(s) for nominating this individual to the program, (b) the applicant’s managerial/executive potential, (c) the areas of the organization in which the company sees this applicant advancing, and/or (d) any additional comments.  It is understood that if this application is accepted, the participant will be completely free from official duties during the program.

As seats in this year’s program are limited, we strongly suggest submitting your completed application and materials at your earliest convenience.  Incomplete application submissions will not be reviewed.  For more details, call 703.706.5271 or write rsolomon@elcinfo.com.  Applications for this year’s program are due no later than February 15, 2008 with endorsement letters to be received by the Institute no later than February 25, 2008.  We will be accepting participants into this year’s program in two lots.  The first round of decisions will be made by January 25, 2008.  The second round of decisions will be made by February 26, 2008.  We will forward an email confirmation to you within three (3) business days of each respective decision date.  Additionally, you will receive a formal “acceptance” letter by March 7, 2008.

Fee/$6,000

Upon your acceptance into this year’s Strengthening the Pipeline program, we will send you an invoice for the program fee.  Your invoice can be paid by credit card or check by contacting Merkena Cooper (ELC Staff Accountant at mcooper@elcinfo.com or 703.706.5269).  The program fee includes all three parts of the development series, instructional, pre-post program materials, and planned meals. The fee does not include hotel accommodations, transportation, or other incidental costs.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the inherent costs of establishing, holding, and refilling participant slots along with associated administrative costs, the following cancellation charge schedule has been established:

  • 3 to 6 weeks prior: participant will be charged 50% of program fee.
  • Within 3 weeks: participant will be charged 100% of program fee.

Cancellation fees are based on the number of weeks from the class start date of the first session.  All cancellation notices must be received in writing (email communication will suffice).

Substitution Policy

Qualified substitutes for registrations can be accommodated with advance written notice.
