OVERVIEW
Institute for Leadership Development & Research (Institute)
The Institute provides executive-level seminars, peer mentoring, coaching, networking with top corporate executives, and leadership development training.

The Institute strives to be the preeminent institution for research and development of blacks in the corporate world: we pursue understanding and growth in the context of truth and excellence. The Institute provides executive-level seminars, peer mentoring, coaching, networking with top corporate executives, and leadership development training. The culmination of our mission is to help high-potential black business leaders achieve stellar performance and recognition. Additionally, the Institute offers cutting-edge research in the interest of more fully understanding the experience of black executives and managers.

The Institute for Leadership Development & Research distinguishing features:

  • A programmatic focus on the unique leadership needs and strengths of black leaders;
  • A distinctive coaching initiative for black leaders and other managers who may be culturally or socially different from the success model of their organizations;
  • Teams of academics, business management consultants, and executives committed to examining and facilitating inclusive business leadership;
  • Participant access to The Executive Leadership Council network of senior black corporate executives, pro diversity CEOs, scholars and business leaders;
  • Research that identifies and benchmarks diversity issues affecting leadership;
  • Metric systems that can help organizations assess their inclusion gaps and progress;
  • Publications which include scholarly research, periodicals, books, and articles;
  • Curriculum designed, facilitated, and supported primarily by & for black managers.

To make fundamental positive changes in the landscape for black executives, the Institute is preparing managers for critical roles in leadership. Simultaneously we are building a body of research and analysis that highlights both need and opportunity for blacks to succeed in business. Towards this goal, the Institute is structured around three central components: Coaching, Programs, and Research.

To be the preeminent institution for research and development of/for blacks in the corporate word: we pursue understanding and growth in the context of truth and excellence.

Mission
We provide black managers and corporations the research, knowledge, and development needed to help blacks advance and achieve in business.

Value
The Institute for Leadership Development & Research adds value by creating a well-researched and documented understanding of the corporate experiences of black managers and executives. This information can be used to develop both organizations and the people they employ.  As a place that gathers, analyzes, and distributes information in multiple ways, the Institute becomes the primary source for data on blacks in business. Further, the
Institute’s various areas – research, programs, and coaching – serves as a complement to each other as information and findings from one or more areas enhances and supports the others.

The Institute gives value to The Executive Leadership Council® members and their organizations by having a credible reputation for producing reliable and valid research; offering challenging, and practical programs; and supplying culturally competent and professionally enhancing coaches.
