ELF Community Impact Initiative Takes the LEAD on Achievement Gap
The Executive Leadership Foundation selected Leadership Education And Development (LEAD) as the recipient of a $500,000 grant, provided through the Foundation’s new Community Impact Initiative and announced at the ELC 2010 Annual Recognition Gala.
“We believe the Community Impact Initiative will serve as the cornerstone for how ELC interacts with and supports our communities moving forward,” said Community Impact initiative Committee Co-Chair Susan Chapman. “Members will be able to engage our community in ways they have not been able to do before, and allow us to actively ensure that the pipeline of talent is robust.”
LEAD is a nationally recognized leadership development organization which offers minority high school students multi-week residential academic, social, and developmental immersion programs at top business and engineering schools during the summer to help prepare them for future global business leadership. Member corporations like ExxonMobil, JPMorgan Chase, Deloitte and UBS, among others, sponsor the organization. LEAD also conducts programs in South Africa and Canada as well.
LEAD has created an ELC Scholars Program that will provide 100% tuition for sixty African American students to take part in these immersion programs.
“With its excellent reputation and track record of success, we felt that LEAD was the best place to invest,” said ELF Chair Roy Dunbar. “Our hope is that the ELF will continue to make a meaningful difference in the continuum from high school to baccalaureate to college to our ELC Leadership Institute and finally to the C-suite and the board of directors.”
“Looking forward, we applaud the gift provided to LEAD by The Executive Leadership Foundation as we seek to expand our programs to meet the demand of high potential leaders of tomorrow,” said Ric Ramsey, President & CEO for LEAD. These ELC Scholars will soon join the nearly 10,000 current students and alumni who have been through the LEAD journey.
