The Marathon Club Unites The Executive Leadership Council™

New America Alliance and the National Association of Investment Companies
as Strategic Alliance Partners

Unique business partnership links strength of African American and
Latino business executives and entrepreneurs to increase the investment of private equity capital
in African American and Latino owned businesses

(July 13, 2005 ) Washington, DC – The Executive Leadership Council™ has joined The Marathon Club as a Strategic Alliance Partner in the organization’s mission to create wealth within the African American and Latino communities.   Established in 2002 by founding partners The National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) and the New America Alliance (NAA), The Marathon Club’s mission is to “increase the availability and investment of private equity capital in enterprises that have significant minority ownership and management participation.”  NAIC is the industry association for private equity firms that specialize in investing in America’s Emerging Domestic Market.  NAA is a 501 (c) 6 organization of American Latino business people promoting the advancement of the American Latino community.

“The Executive Leadership Council is delighted to become part of the strategic alliance encompassed by The Marathon Club,” said Executive Leadership Council President Carl Brooks. “Through the strength and power of inclusive leadership, we can realize our mutual vision of increasing wealth equity and business talent in our respective communities. This partnership is a win-win for business and for America.”

With some 350 members, The Executive Leadership Council is the nation’s premier leadership organization of the most senior African-American corporate executives in Fortune 500 companies and equivalents. Founded in 1986 with 19 executive members – 18 men and one woman, The Executive Leadership Council has grown to represent the highest standard in senior inclusive leadership.  Today more than one-third of its members are comprised of women.  A series of pipeline initiatives develop African-American business leaders from the classroom to the corporate board room.  An annual CEOs Diversity Summit attracts scores of Fortune 500 CEOs and the Institute for Leadership Development & Research helps coach executives to breakthrough performances and provides benchmarking research on global business leadership issues.

“The Marathon Club is very pleased to welcome The Executive Leadership Council to our family of strategic alliance partners,” said Robert L. Greene, Executive Director of The Marathon Club. “The opportunities and value that will come from having the leadership, talent and resources of The Executive Leadership Council, New America Alliance and the National Association of Investment Companies hold tremendous promise for a brighter future for America’s Emerging Domestic Market.”

Using research, leadership events, professional development symposiums, networking forums and business alliances, The Marathon Club effectively harnesses the strength of inclusive leadership to build significant linkages between investors and minority entrepreneurs, public policy and corporate leaders, and members of the community at large.

In the coming months, the three organizations, which have supported each other in the past, will strengthen their alliance through The Marathon Club to leverage their resources, public platforms, and connections to advance their strategic mission.
