Westina Matthews Shatteen is Managing Director, Community Leadership, Planning & Strategy, Merrill Lynch.  In this position, Ms. Matthews Shatteen is responsible for strengthening strategic alliances to support the company's community relations and new business development.  Over the course of her 20-plus year career at Merrill Lynch, she became the first woman and person of color elected as trustee of the Merrill Lynch Foundation.  She also serves as trustee of two of the company foundations, and president of a third foundation.

A native of Ohio, Ms. Matthews Shatteen earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in education at the University of Dayton and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Chicago, and served as a postdoctoral research fellow at both Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Ms. Matthews Shatteen has also received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Carlow College (2000) and the Metropolitan College of New York (2005). She currently serves as a trustee at the University of Dayton.   In 1990, then New York City Mayor David Dinkins appointed Ms. Matthews Shatteen as a Member of the Board of Education.
