ELC Members in the News and On the Move

Members of The Executive Leadership Council continue to be recognized by their companies and in the media for their accomplishments.

Morgan Stanley Chairman and CEO James Gorman announced the appointment of ELC Board Chair Carla Harris (pictured above) to the Management Committee of Morgan Stanley. Gorman said “”Morgan Stanley’s Management Committee serves a critical function, fostering collaboration and coordination across the Firm as we execute our strategy, and Carla will bring valuable perspectives.” Harris is vice chairman, Wealth Management and Senior Client Advisor, and a managing director of Morgan Stanley.

Immediate Past Board Chair of The Executive Leadership Foundation Laysha Ward (pictured above), president of Target Community Relations, co-authored an Opinion Editorial for The Washington Post with General Colin L. Powell and Alma J. Powell. Titled “At-risk students need more help from us, not Washington,” the Op-Ed made a case to encourage more caring adults to provide assistance for at-risk teens instead of depending entirely on government-sponsored education reform. The Powells established and lead a partnership of national nonprofits, businesses, communities, educators and ordinary citizens called America’s Promise Alliance, focused on helping young people achieve their full potential. Target sponsored a report by America’s Promise titled “Don’t Call Them Dropouts.”

ELC members were among a new class of Fellows announced by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). NACD’s Fellowship Program is a comprehensive program of study developed exclusively for corporate directors who strive to stay aware of and knowledgeable about leading boardroom practices and trends that shape today’s corporate governance environment. ELC Members A. Louis Parker, Paula Sneed and Lionel L. Nowell III were among those credentialed.

FirstGroup appointed Dennis Maple (pictured above) president of its First Student division. He was president of Aramark Education, a division of Aramark Corporation. FirstGroup plc is the leading transport operator in the UK and North America and First Student is the largest provider of student transportation in North America with a fleet of approximately 50,000 school buses carrying 6 million students every school day across the US and Canada.

Valentino D. Carlotti, partner and head of the Securities Division Institutional Client group at Goldman, Sachs & Co., was named a national trustee and currently serves on the board of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Rodney C. Adkins (pictured above), senior vice president, Strategic Partnerships for IBM, was named to the boards of Grainger and PPL Corporation. Adkins will retire from IBM at the end of 2014 after more than 33 years of service to the company.
