Do you want to learn how to crack the code in order to ideate more effectively and maximize your creativity? Do you want to learn what it takes to create a culture of innovation in your organization? Have you ever wondered how advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, specifically impact the Black community? If so, then the Leading Innovation course is for you.

Leading Innovation will take you on a journey of self-exploration and practical application of new skills from the worlds of technology and innovation. In a collaborative environment, you will use tools such as design thinking to address a major challenge that incorporates Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and entrepreneurship concepts – all while competing with peer teams for a grand prize. Tools at your disposal will include drones, virtual reality gaming systems, augmented reality, programmable microcontrollers and robots.

This course takes participants through an experiential process focused on facts, ideation, and reflection. Participants will have the opportunity to simultaneously learn techniques and gain practical application. Panel discussions comprised of ELC alumni will provide best practices, advice, and guidance to participants throughout the experience.

Learning Objectives

Learning objectives provide the foundation for training development. Terminal and Enabling objectives provide a framework that organizes the course content, instructional activities, and assessments. The Terminal Objective describes the learning achieved by completing the overall course, while Enabling Objectives describe learning achieved with specific segments of the course.

Terminal Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will have:

  • Created an action plan for embracing and effectively leveraging change
  • Developed a creative mindset action plan
  • Developed a toolbox to help produce new ideas and products
  • Presented a novel concept solution using cutting edge technology

Enabling Objectives

During this course, participants will:

  • Build a peer network of future Black professional innovators through experiential situations
  • Enhance active listening skills to collect data from diverse perspectives
  • Explore individual proclivities to change and how they impact behavior using the Change Style Indicator
  • Identify insights that are relative to innovation and change
  • Practice collaborative strategies to enhance partnering and trust
  • Practice strategies to generate ideas without judgement or filters
