ELC Post-Summer Activities Ramp Up Before Gala


September was a very active month for The ELC, with events in New York, Las Vegas and Washington, DC. We held our first Regional Women’s Leadership Forum at Time Warner Center in New York, where more than 60 black women executives were engaged in “Increasing the Visibility of Black Women Executives in Broadcast and Digital Media.”

Leadership Coach Trudy Bourgeois interviews Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Rosalind Brewer during the C-Suite Academy at McKinsey & Company in Washington, DC.

The following week, The ELC Institute for Leadership Development & Research held its first Leadership Development Week West in Las Vegas, where more than 50 mid-level managers and executives participated in a week of education, activities and coaching through Strengthening the Pipeline, the Institute’s marquee program. Click here to view the photo album.

Also, that week, more than 70 members of The ELC and their guests joined members of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity (The Boulé), The Links, Incorporated and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for the 7th annual Networking Reception during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) in Washington, DC. More than 220 people gathered on the rooftop of Skadden Arps with Members of Congress to hear from Congressman Cedric Richmond, chair of the CBC, and witness the presentation of a $15,000 gift from the three host organizations to Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the CBCF, in support of its Summer Internship program. Click here to view the photo album.

On hand for the presentation of a $15,000.00 donation to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Summer Intern program were: (l-r) Congressman Anthony Brown (MD), CBCF President and CEO A. Shuanise Washington, Sigma Pi Phi Grand Sire Archon-Elect Gregory Vincent, Links President and CEO Dr. Glenda Newell-Harris, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Networking Reception Chair Valerie Lewis of The Albertsons Companies, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH), and ELC President & CEO Ronald C. Parker.

ELC Members Al Zollar, Lloyd Trotter and Singleton McAllister served on the “Breaking Down Barriers to Boards: Corporate Diversity” panel Issues Forum during the CBCF ALC hosted by Congressmen Gregory Meeks of New York and G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina. Also, ELC Members Fred Humphries and Jimmie Paschall participated on a HBCU panel hosted by Congresswoman Alma Adams of North Carolina, co-chair of the Bipartisan Congressional HBCU Caucus.

To cap off the month, The ELC Institute held its second C-Suite Academy, in collaboration with McKinsey & Company, at McKinsey’s Washington, DC offices, where Starbuck’s Chief Operating Officer Rosalind Brewer shared her experiences climbing the corporate ladder. McKinsey & Company Senior Partner Rodney W. Zemmel also addressed C-Suite Academy participants, sharing the company’s perspectives on impacts of short- and long-term investment and planning. Click here to view the photo album.
