The Executive Leadership Council (ELC) congratulates Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her historic confirmation to the United States Supreme Court.

More than two generations after the first Black Justice, Thurgood Marshall, was appointed to the Supreme Court, and 41 years after the appointment of Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman Justice, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve as Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

“On behalf of The ELC’s nearly 800 members who represent Black achievement in the corporate world, we commend Judge Jackson’s appointment to the Supreme Court. As the first Black woman Supreme Court Justice in the Court’s 232-year-history, she will inspire young Black women and men for generations,” said Michael C. Hyter, President & CEO of The ELC.

“As one of the most qualified candidates for the Court, I have no doubt that Judge Jackson will make an outstanding Supreme Court Justice. Our network is excited to support her,” said Lloyd W. Brown, II, Chair of The ELC Board.

Since 1790, only 120 Justices have donned the Jay robe in the “first Court still sitting.” The ELC is very proud that Judge Jackson will be the first Black woman to ever do so. The ELC applauds the Biden-Harris Administration for selecting Judge Jackson to create a high court more reflective of the American people and inclusive of diverse perspectives.
