Our London Convening was an inspiring week of dialogue and connection among leaders from both sides of the Atlantic. It was an experience that reminded us just how essential global perspective has become in today’s boardrooms. The week began with a wonderful members-only pre-reception, hosted by Diligent, where we were joined by Alastair Scragg, Assistant General Counsel at Diligent who gave us such a warm welcome to London.

At Google, we explored AI governance and board oversight, tackling one of the most complex challenges facing executives and directors today. The discussion reframed a critical misconception: effective board oversight of AI does not require deep technical expertise but a shared fluency around innovation, ethics, and accountability. My gratitude to our distinguished panelists Arlene Isaacs-Lowe, Non-Executive Director, Compass Group PLC; Rob Knight, Chief Executive, AI-Mindshift; and The Hon. Ruth Kelly, Chair, Thames Freeport. Special thanks to our moderator Melanie V. Eusebe MBE HON LLD, who guided a thoughtful and engaging conversation on how boards can govern responsibly while fostering innovation.

At Bloomberg, our World in Motion breakfast conversation examined how shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics are reshaping opportunity, risk, and growth across markets. Thank you to our exceptional panelists Heather Harris, Chief Content Officer, Bloomberg News; Jacqueline Simmons, Editorial Lead, EMEA, Bloomberg News; and moderator Ruth David, London Bureau Chief, Bloomberg News, for leading a dynamic exchange that captured what makes The ELC community so powerful—leaders who listen, learn, share and collaborate to strengthen our collective readiness for the future.

Our week concluded with a remarkable evening at Powerful Media’s 2025 Powerlist Celebration of Black Excellence (COBE) Awards and Gala, where we joined influential leaders from across the U.K. to honor those shaping the future of business and society. Michael Eboda, CEO of Powerful Media, has created an extraordinary platform that celebrates impact and visibility on a global scale. The ELC was honored to sponsor the Executive of the Year Award, presented this year to Carlos Treadway, CEO of Ford Credit International—a leader who embodies excellence, courage, and accountability in every sense.

Article contentSpecial thanks to our International Presence Committee Co-Chairs Keith Levy and Nancy Armand, hosts Craig Cuffie, Melonie Parker, Kelsey Robb, and Matthew Beckford, and to our partners at HSBC, Google, Bloomberg, and Powerful Media for their partnership and support. Deep appreciation to our speakers and moderators, and to The ELC staff Erica Jordan, MBA, Kayla Waysome, Ed.M., and Angelina Gordon for helping bring this convening to life.

As The ELC expands its global footprint, The London Convening reinforced what sets our community apart: courageous, forward-thinking leadership grounded in connection and shared purpose.
